The situation in Lebanon right now
Lebanon is facing its worst economic crisis since the 15-year civil war ended in 1990.
The local currency (Lebanese Lira) value has dropped by 80% ,which has caused food prices to soar, the price of bread in Lebanon has increased for the first time in 10 years.
The country’s public debt is $92 billion, equivalent to 170 percent of GDP, one of the highest levels in the world.
The drop in value is part of a wider economic crisis in the import-dependent country.
What this means for the Lebanese people:
Since Lebanon imports up to 80% percent of its food, and a UN study has found that, at the end of April, half the country was struggling to find basic food staples because food prices had risen by 56% since October.
This means that a famine might hit Lebanon.
What has already happened due to this drop in value?
The drop in value of the currency has already created chaos across the country as people have a hard time with buying everyday necessities.

A 61-year-old man from the eastern region of Hermel shot himself outside a cafe on a busy Beirut shopping street shortly before noon, leaving a Lebanese flag, a note and a copy of his clean criminal record at the scene.
And a 37-year-old man hanged himself in his home in the town of Jadra and his body was found early on Friday. he was a husband and a father.
